GORTSARAN 12 (FACTORY RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR NPATAK SUMMER STUDIO)
The topic of the project given to us is the reinterpretation of the former textile factory in Dilijan.
The city of Dilijan is a peripheral city based around 3 districts: Papanino, Galavino and Old Dili. It occupies a very important position in the Republic of Armenia, as it is located at the intersection of Yerevan-Vanadzor and Yerevan-Ijevan highways. The area of the factory is centrally located in Dilijan, as it is also located at the intersection of those highways. All this gives a lot of potential for the area’s development . As a result of the research of the project, we highlighted 4 important points on the basis of which our project developed. For us, it is important that the factory must be a destination, that is,to be visible and accessible to pedestrians from important points in the area. The other point was that it becomes accessible to everyone, regardless of age or opportunities. For us, it is also important that the factory becomes a Dilijan resident and not a guest in Dilijan, in which the sweet dialect of Dilijan helped us․ In project we used phrases such as մորմոնջի ղայդի աշխատըմ ա(works like an ant), քիմ ենք քոլըմ հաց ուտենք(We go to the forest to eat),նարդվան(stair) etc. And the last point is the ecological sustainability of the factory with the use of rainwater, solar panels, etc.
Since the area of the factory is on 3 height marks, we suggest raising the lowest mark and lowering the highest mark to get a connection from the Tbilisi highway to the Aghstev River with the help of ramps. Then open the floor of the terraces completely, making it public, and fill that area with additional volume, which is rotated by the axis obtained by ramps.In the corners of the terraces, there are provided amphitheaters, which on the other hand give lighting for the factory area.
The red color and a “wavy” look of the additional volume are chosen to emphasize the activity of the factory,especially , the presence of the red cloth in the non-operational factory.
